Alvaro was born on August 2, 1982 in Pontevedra, into a working family. His two older brothers had practiced sports sporadically, but he started canoeing at the hands of his cousin Marta, who was a great athlete and pushed him to practice it at the age of 11, in 1994.
He starts at the Pontevedra Naval Club, where he currently has his best friends and where he keeps very good moments in this sport. From his long period in the Naval, he stands out, that he was trained as a canoeist, being at all times supported by his coaching staff and members of the club. He won several national titles and was part of the Junior National Team during that time. In 2002 he began a series of new projects, which would make him go through clubs such as Piragüismo Poio and ADZ de Zamora. In these years he trained as a canoeist and established himself in the National Teams of the higher categories. Arriving in 2009 to obtain in the ranks of the ADZ the double of European and World marathon, together with Emilio Merchán. In 2010 he began his last sports bet to date, at Club Oviedo Kayak. Driven by the charisma of the club's president, Pepe Rubiera and the project of being able to win the Descent of the Sella teaming up with Walter Bouzán, they manage to achieve more than just one Sella, but rather: three Sellas, two golds and one silver World Cup and a victory in World Cup, adding other events of maximum national and international depth. So far he has reached this point, but we hope that more titles will continue to arrive.
