La conversación que cambió el rumbo de la marca

The conversation that changed the course of the brand

It wasn’t an epic meeting. There were no speeches. There was no whiteboard full of arrows.

It was a short, direct, and quite uncomfortable conversation.

It came after weeks when everything seemed to keep working… but no longer with the same ease. The brand was still alive, yes, but small signs were starting to appear that, together, made noise: decisions made too quickly, too many things open at once, and that feeling of always putting out fires. Sometimes it’s hard to manage good results if you’re not structurally prepared for them. As it’s often said, you can die from success.

For a while, we had told ourselves a comfortable story: that intuition was enough, that movement was part of the DNA, that disorder was the price of freedom. And in part, it was true. The Indian Face was born in 2007 like that, without a manual, without a formula, without asking for permission.

But another truth was also clear: freedom, if not sustained, breaks.

The phrase

In that conversation, someone said something very simple. It didn’t sound nice. It wasn’t meant to sound nice.

“Either we start managing this for real… or one day it will fall on us.”

There was silence. Not out of drama, but because it was obvious. We had felt it. We just hadn’t put it into words like that.

That was the moment it stopped being a romantic idea and became a decision.

The uncomfortable part

The uncomfortable part wasn’t accepting the phrase. The uncomfortable part was what came after: recognizing that some things we liked — improvising, saying yes to everything, always living “in travel mode” — were starting to cost us more than they contributed.

Not because living that way is wrong. On the contrary. Precisely because we wanted to keep living like that, we had to stop putting it at risk.

There was a contradiction that couldn’t be maintained much longer: we wanted a solid brand, but we treated it as if it were just an open project.

The decision

It wasn’t an overnight turnaround. It was the start of a different way of working.

  • We began to plan more calmly.
  • We learned to say no.
  • We reduced the noise: fewer impulses, more judgment.
  • We stopped chasing after everything.
  • And we started truly choosing.

What changed wasn’t just the organization. The mindset changed. The threshold of what we considered acceptable changed. The way we designed, launched, and sustained changed.

What came next

Over time, we understood that this conversation didn’t take away our freedom. It gave it back to us.

Because real freedom isn’t doing whatever you feel like today. It’s being able to keep choosing tomorrow.

And for that, something less romantic but more important is needed: structure, judgment, and consistency.
