Fuerteventura is without a doubt a paradise for windsurfing, as the Canary Island has unique conditions for practicing this sport and people come here from all corners of the world to enjoy their passion, to enjoy windsurfing.
There are many spots on the Canary Island that could be called interesting for windsurfing, but without hesitation we can say that if one stands out above all, it is none other than the spot located in the area of the Sotavento beaches. In that place you will find the René Elgi Pro Center spot (I and II), considered one of the best in all of Europe.
Here you will find outrageously favourable weather conditions for windsurfing, and everyone who comes to enjoy a few good days in “plan wind” will be able to enjoy the best variables for going out to plan. The wind is without a doubt the star variable of the place, and you will find it blowing always at all hours of the day and night, day after day and year after year (with honourable exceptions, of course) and with the peak months of the year (from June to August) blowing at 5 Bft. almost 100% of the time.
Such good conditions for windsurfing obviously mean that this area is very popular with other windsurfers. You will notice this crowd simply as you get closer to the sea. The sight of multiple sails will put you into action and you will feel the call to take the plunge, to sail the sea with the others.
Another great advantage of going windsurfing in this area is the large number of windsurfing services available in the area. Even if you don't bring your own equipment, you can use the equipment you will find in the area. You can also check the anemometer and the "windguru" forecast.
Once you are out on the sea, on your board and with the sail well selected, you will enjoy strong and constant winds, not gusty, with uniform and large waves. Conditions that undoubtedly attract the pros and if you are in the area around four in the afternoon (time when the wind reaches its zenith) you will be able to experience what it is like to have a forward of more than 10 meters high at a short distance from you. Finally, are you curious to know why the winds are so strong in this area? The answer is in the trade winds, and also because you will find this spot located right in front of the leeward nozzle. All this (together with a typical Canarian climate where you will never be cold) makes this place a popular place all year round, although as you have already seen in previous lines there are months that are more suitable for windsurfing, but in no case does this mean that the rest of the year it is not suitable, because it absolutely is.
