I have the honor and great pleasure of introducing you to Alvaro Fiúza, (http://www.alvarofiuza.com/) our new signing for the “
Alvaro was born on August 2, 1982 in Pontevedra, into a working-class family. His two older brothers had played sports sporadically, but he was introduced to canoeing by his cousin Marta, who was a great athlete and encouraged him to take up canoeing at the age of 11, in 1994.
He started at the Naval Club of Pontevedra, where he has his best friends today and where he has had some great memories of this sport. From his long time at the Naval, it is worth highlighting that he was trained as a canoeist, being supported at all times by his coaching staff and members of the club. He won several national titles and was part of the Junior National Team during that time.
In 2002 he began a series of new projects, which would take him through clubs such as Piragüismo Poio and ADZ de Zamora. During these years he trained as a canoeist and established himself in the National Teams of the higher categories. In 2009 he obtained the double of European and World Marathon Championships in the ranks of ADZ, together with Emilio Merchán.
In 2010 he began his latest sporting venture to date, at the Oviedo Kayak Club. Driven by the charisma of the club president, Pepe Rubiera, and the project of winning the Sella Descent as a partner with Walter Bouzán, they managed to achieve more than just one Sella, but three Sellas, two golds and a silver in the World Championships and a victory in the World Cup, adding other events of the highest national and international importance.
So far, that's all it has to offer, but we hope that more titles will continue to arrive.
