Top 10 Sochi 2014 Olympic Games moments by The Indian Face
This Sunday the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games came to an end and with them our illusion of winning a medal but... we never get discouraged! We have some very young athletes who are already training hard for the next Pyeongchang 2018 Games ( South Korea).
In the medal ranking, Russia finished their own games as the best with 33 medals; Norway in 2nd position with 26 medals; Canada 3rd with 25 medals (the champion of the previous Vancouver 2010 Games started as a favourite); and USA 4th with 26 medals.
In The Indian Face we have taken stock of all these days and have chosen what, for us, are the ten best moments of these Games.
Our Top 10 Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics moments
1. In the first place and without any doubt, we are left with the best result of the Spanish team: the 4th place of the skater Javier Fernández.
2. The exercise of the Spanish snowboarder Queralt Castellet that took her directly to the halfpipe final.
3. The performance of the Japanese skater Yuzuru HANYU who at only 19 years old achieved his first Olympic medal.
4. “The dethroned prince of the halfpipe”: all bets were on American Shaun White as the winner but he didn't even reach the podium and had to settle for 4th place. The gold medal went to the Russian nationalized Swiss Iouri Podladtchikov (better known as IPod).
5. The gold medal in the mixed relay biathlon by Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, a Norwegian forty-year-old who holds the record for Olympic medals, no more and no less than 13 medals!
6. The Polish national pride Kamil Stoch who added to the Polish medal table (11th place with 6 medals) two gold medals in men's individual ski jumping both on normal springboard and on large springboard.
7. The alpine ski final had, for the first time, two gold medals for the Swiss Dominique Gisin and the Slovenian Tina Maze who tied in the descent with the same time (one minute, 41 seconds and 57 hundredths)
8. The willpower of Peruvian Roberto Carcelén who finished the 15km cross-country ski final. in last place with two broken ribs: The Peruvian Carcelén, an example of delivery in Sochi.
9. The tribute to Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke who died in 2012 while training. In The Indian Face we join in the memory of this fantastic skier.
10. The return of the Pussy Riot in Sochi.
