Its streets are white, with low houses and courtyards that are very characteristic of this area. Fishing is still very present in this town bathed by the Atlantic, and hence its wild coast and rich gastronomy. It is a town that exudes charm on all four sides, and more in summer.
But now we are going to tell you what interests you. What to do in summer in Conil? What can't you miss? Where to go? You will find all this and much more here, your trusted guide.
THE BEST BEACHES IN CONIL
- CASTILNOVO BEACH
The best thing (for us) about Conil is its coast, its wonderful beaches. Conil has the most amazing beaches in all of Cádiz. Infinite beaches with kilometers of sand, virgin beaches where you can rest and be practically alone, with almost no umbrella around you. It is hard to choose just one, but one of the ones we like the most and which never fails on our Cádiz route is Castilnovo beach, south of Conil. A virgin beach of more than 2 kilometers that is ideal for surfing or simply spending a quiet day.
- EL PALMAR BEACH
El Palmar: the pearl of the Atlantic. Difficult to shade this beach. It is located right at the end of Castilnovo beach, in Vejer de la Frontera, and is one of the best in all of Spain. Its waters are crystal clear and it measures more than 8 km, it is really big. It is the ideal option for the whole family, very safe for children and with more secluded areas perfect for surfers. But in addition, there are several craft markets where you can buy some decorative item, clothing or some souvenir. And not only that, it is full of beach bars where you can stop after an afternoon at the beach and have a drink enjoying a sunset and live music. Without a doubt, nobody gets bored at Palmar.
GET LOST THROUGH ITS STREETS
The town of Conil is beautiful. Spend an afternoon walking through its streets and lose yourself among its narrow, white streets dotted with the colors of bougainvillea, geraniums, and carnations. The historic center is a true jewel and no matter where you start walking, you will always find something that surprises you. Sign up these streets: José Velarde, Messrs. Curas, Sauceda and Herrería, four streets that fill the town with life. You can't miss the Santa Catalina Church, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, or the Torre de Guzmán, an emblem of Conil built in 1502.
WHERE TO EAT IN CONIL DE LA FRONTERA?
You cannot travel to a place and not soak up its gastronomy. Well, what does Conil taste like? Very easy. Among so many flavors, the one that most reminds us of Conil is that of fish, specifically tuna, shellfish and fried fish. The cool thing about Conil is that the list of bars where you can have tapas and try everything is endless, as are all the dishes to try. There are options for all tastes, from bars where you can have a quick snack to restaurants with the best products. We reveal our favorites, write them down:
- Malabata
Malabata is considered one of the best restaurants in Conil, and its gastronomic offer is difficult to beat. Located on calle Almadraba, the menu of this restaurant offers dishes of all kinds, mainly typical of Mediterranean food. It is a mandatory stop and if you come you cannot stop ordering one of their tuna dishes (the house specialty), the prawn salad or the Iberian pluma. Of course, do not risk it and book well in advance, people fight to get a table!
- El Portillo Bar
Our second recommendation is El Portillo, another of the most popular restaurants in Conil. If you are with friends and looking for a tapas plan, this is the best option. It is located on Extramuros street. Its monkfish, its tuna and its homemade ice creams are the house brand, together with its exquisite wines. A sure hit that you cannot fail.
24 HOURS A DAY ENVIRONMENT
But let's not forget Conil's greatest attraction in the summer months. When summer arrives, Conil becomes the center of the march in all of Cádiz. At any time of day there is atmosphere in its streets. It is a perfect mix between beach by day and street by night. With the arrival of vacationers its population quadruples, and each year it grows.
If you feel like taking a quiet walk on the beach, it is best to get up a little early and leave between 8 and 10 in the morning, before the sun sets, or else at sunset, about 8 in the evening. But is there anything better than sitting down to have a gazpacho or something cold in a beach bar watching the sunset?
If when night arrives you still want to have a good time, you are in the best place. In the historic center of Conil there are countless bars and pubs where you can enjoy the Conilense nightlife. Any one in particular? We love La Luna, Ícaro and El Cortijo.
But you can't travel to Conil and not take your favorite sunglasses, all-terrain sunglasses, which will fit any plan you make in this town: a day at the beach, a meal With friends, a walk watching the sunset... We give you two options for sunglasses that will be a complete success: the Valley and model Ushuaia. Thanks to their lenses with UV400 protection, they will protect you from the sun's rays, as well as elevate your look.
What are you waiting for to travel to Conil? Conil is the perfect place to spend the best summer months. Call a couple of friends and organize a getaway to this town in Cádiz, you will not regret it.
