Gisela Pulido, la mejor kitesurfer

Pulido Gisela, The Best Kitesurfer

The young Gisela Pulido, only 20 years old, has become a recent heroine of kitesurfing, and will undoubtedly be a living legend of this sport for many years to come and a key figure in kitesurfing for all eternity. This Catalan, born in the coastal town of Premià de Mar in Barcelona, and currently living in the town of Tarifa in Cadiz, has an impressive list of achievements to her name, despite her young age.

Gisela has been no less than 8 times world champion in freestyle kitesurfing (uninterruptedly between 2004 and 2011 inclusive) and 4 times world champion in PKR kitesurfing (specifically in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011).

Gisela, a goofy in her position on the board and a professional kitesurfer since 2003, also complements her list of achievements with titles such as the Gravity Games gold medal (2005), champion of the Wave Master championship (2005) or champion of the European “Europa Junior” (2003). Throughout her career as a professional, for all her achievements and for all the passion she puts into kitesurfing, Gisela has become, on her own merits, a reference, or rather, a world icon of kitesurfing. And it is no wonder, when analyzing her entire career we can see that in all probability we are in front of one of the most precocious and prolific champions in the world of sport.

This heroine of the sea, from a very early age, when she was sailing along the Maresme coast where she was born (the Maresme coast, a central coast of the Catalan coast, very close to Barcelona that has a great tradition and following of sports related to the sea) already demonstrated great skills (as well as a huge interest) in everything related to the sea. It was with her father that she entered into the passion of extreme water sports, for all this she began (after achieving her first great sporting results with swimming) with kiteboarding in 2001, to only one year later, in 2002, make her baptism as a kitesurfer.

Gisela's water sports skills were evident from shortly after she was born in 1994, but it was with her entry into the professional field of kitesurfing, not before overcoming the obstacles caused by her parents' reluctance to let her take part in professional competitions at such a young age, and with her first titles around the world that Gisela really began to shine with all her potential and demonstrate how far one can go in this sport.

There are many high points that we could mention in the sporting career of this exceptional athlete, but if we look back to 2011, for example, we find one of the key points in the sporting history of the young athlete. About to come of age, and still with a long way to go in sport, in 2011 Gisela confirmed herself as the best kitesurfer in history by reaching the top of the podium for 8 consecutive times in a world championship, and was also awarded the medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, granted by the Higher Council of Sports.
