An event that everyone attends due to the variety of activities it offers: live performances, food trucks, open-air cinema, workshops where you can paint your board... and of course, a shopping area with best world surf brands. It is the most important championship in Spain in the longboard modality. The categories for this 2022 will be: longboard men and women open, longboard sub-18 men and women, longboard master (from 35 years old), longboard kahuna (from 45 years old) and kneeboard open.
- SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP (AUGUST 20 – SEPTEMBER 4)
For the fifth consecutive year the beach of A Frouxeira, Valdoviño (Ferrolterra) will host the Spanish Championship Surfing, a competition organized by the Spanish Federation of Surfing. In this event, athletes of all categories compete, from the kids category: sub 10, sub 12, sub 14 (August 20-22), to the junior category: sub 16, sub 18, sub 21 (August 24-26). In addition, the Competition for Autonomous Teams is also held, in this case on August 22, 23 and 24. The Surfing Kids circuit is one of the novelties that this edition brings, but not the only one. Let's not forget the Bodyboard Circuit, which is expected to recover its pre-pandemic level.
THE TOP INTERNATIONAL SURFING COMPETITIONS
But, in addition to these three championships, this year 2022 there are other WSL championships that if you have the opportunity, you cannot miss them. Without a doubt, you will see the best surfing here. Already entered in July, we are in the second season of the WSL world circuit. At this point there is a cut of competitors, and it is that of the 34 men and 16 women who start the circuit, at this point there are only 22 and 10, respectively. It gets interesting! These are the 3 championships that yes or yes you have to see:
- CORONA OPEN J-BAY (JULY 12-21)
J-Bay, also called Billabong Pro Jeffres Bay is held every year in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The name may not be familiar to you at first, but surely if we remind you of the image of the surfer Mick Fanning attacked by a shark you know what we are talking about. J Bay is the ninth round of the circuit and is considered the best right-hand break on the planet. A 5-star test in which to see an unbeatable level of surfing.
- TAHITI PRO TEAHUPOO (AUGUST 11-21)
The star championship of the WSL Tour. The Tahiti Pro Teahupoo or Billabong Pro Teahupoo takes place at the legendary Teahupoo, Tahiti. Every year there are 10 days of the most awaited by the surfing community, and it is not for less. The size of its waves, which are between 5 and 10 meters, and the dangerous reefs make it a temple for any surfer, as well as a somewhat feared setting. Only the best of the men's category compete in this championship. No edition of the Tahiti Pro Teahupoo leaves anyone indifferent, something always happens that leaves us speechless. If we think about this competition, it is inevitable not to remember the king of the waves, Kelly Slater, who in 2016 was crowned the oldest surfer to win this event. We do not know if you will be able to travel to Tahiti to attend this championship, but we do not doubt that you will see it broadcast live.
- RIP CURL WSL FINALS (8-16 SEPTEMBER)
The last round of the WSL Championship Tour 2022 takes place between September 8 and 16 in California, specifically at San Onofre State Beach, Lower Trestles. Only the 5 best men and the 5 best women in the ranking will make it to this event and will be able to surf one of the best waves in the world. On this beach it will be decided who is the next world champion. Did you know that this final was once the most watched broadcast in the history of surfing? Without a doubt, an appointment that we will not miss for the world.
These are the surf competitions both nationally and internationally that you cannot miss this 2022. We would like nothing more than to be able to attend all these tests. Trust us, going to a surfing competition is a great plan, especially in summer. Sun, beach, concerts, friends. and the best surfing you can see, what more could you ask for?
