The most popular extreme sports for spring/summer

Bungee jumping

Bungee jumping is an extreme sport where a person jumps from a great height into the void attached to the starting point by an elastic rope. Bungee jumping can be done from many surfaces, such as bridges, high-rise buildings, ravines, cranes... One of the places in Spain where bungee jumping is done is in the Royal Road from Granada to the Alpujarra on the historic red bridge leading to Lanjarón.

Hang Gliding

The delta wing consists of a mechanism that allows perform gliding flights without an engine. Both takeoff and landing are done at low speed so they can be done on foot. To practice it, you must take advantage of the ascending air currents or thermals to make turns and move through the air. Expert pilots can stay in the air for a long time and perform acrobatics. In Spain, a great place to practice hang gliding is the Grazalema Mountain Range Natural Park.

ROCK CLIMBING

Rock climbing consists of in climbing a steep rock wall with the aid of physical strength. The height of the place can be very dangerous, so safety and protection equipment is usually used. Depending on the place where it is practiced and its difficulty, it can be considered a risky sport. There is the “integral only” modality where the climber climbs the rock without any type of safety. Another type of rock climbing is “psicobloc” where the climber climbs cliff walls where the only protection is the water. Mallorca is one of the destinations chosen by climbers to practice this technique. And to practice rock climbing we recommend the Ansó Valley in the Pyrenees.

SKYDIVING

Skydiving is one of the extreme sports that gains more followers every year. Jumping from a hot air balloon, a helicopter or a plane gives you an adrenaline rush. Depending on the parachutist's skill, the parachute can be opened immediately after jumping from the aircraft or a controlled free fall can be performed and then opened. Within skydiving there are different modalities, including "relative work" where several parachutists perform different formations during free fall, "freestyle" where different pirouettes are performed, "drifts" where the parachutist adopts a position where maximum horizontal displacement occurs, among many others.

One of the places that is a world reference for practicing skydiving is Empuriabrava, where its skydiving centre was the first in the world to reach one million jumps.
