Lucas Eguibar, snow world champion in bordercross mode

Lucas Eguibar, a 21-year-old Spanish rider (Guipúzcoa) who we already talked about in an article on this blog a couple of months ago, is already the history of snowboarding and sport in our country. At his very young age, the Basque rider has emerged as World Cup champion, in the boardercross modality, despite being eliminated in the quarterfinals during the last test of the circuit, which was held on Saturday March 21 in the ski resort of La Molina. Eguibar, who came to this commitment as leader of the general classification with an advantage of 600 points over the rest of his rivals, has been an unprecedented milestone in winter sports, since he has become the first Spaniard to win a Crystal Globe, a precious trophy in the international panorama of winter sports.

On a very technical track, full of jumps, banking and dubbies, the Gipuzkoan fell in the quarterfinals, so he did not depend on himself and had to be aware of the performance of his rivals to be able to know the outcome and know if he finally kept the first place in the World Cup in this last test. It was worth it for Lucas Eguibar to finish sixth and that neither the Canadian Kevin Hill nor the Russian Olyunin won the test in which Eguibar was eliminated. Finally, another Canadian, Christopher Robanske, took victory in bordercross, and in this way Eguibar was able to climb to the top of the podium to collect his Crystal Globe.

Despite his little experience at the highest level, Eguibar had already been proclaimed junior world champion and an Olympic diploma at the Sochi Olympics, where a fall sidelined him at the last moment of the fight for the medals.
