The current PWA World Wave Champion, Victor Fernandez, was born in El Ejido, Almeria. He started windsurfing with his father at an early age in his hometown of Almerimar. In 2002 he began his career as a professional windsurfer and in 2010 he won the title of World Wave Champion for the first time, followed by further wins in 2016 and 2018.
