“My life before the accident was a routine life, I went from home to work and from work to the gym. Now I am in the National Snowboard Team.”
In the life of Astrid Fina from Barcelona there will always be a before and after on May 10, 2009. That day, after enjoying a soccer game with her friends, while she was stopped with her motorcycle at a traffic light , a car accelerated and destroyed his right foot. Given her youth, the doctors decided to try to save her foot. Astrid, who until then worked as a clerk in a jewelry store, had two years of struggling to try to save her foot, and thirteen operations later she decided that the best thing for her was to amputate.
One day in 2012, a friend of hers invited her to try snowboarding in Baqueira, who until then had only skied with school. She liked him so much that she tried out for the national team, being the only girl. In less than two years, Astrid was already competing in her first Paralympic Games in Sochi 2014, where she was the sixth snowboard cross.
Later, after several years of training, Astrid won a bronze medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Paralympics in the cross country event (SB-LL2 class). Also, just a year later, she earned a bronze medal at the 2019 Adaptive Snowboarding World Championships.
“My life is happier now, the board allows me to fly, it gives me more freedom"
Beyond her sporting success, the Barcelonan knows that she is the mirror in which many people, many young people, with disabilities look at themselves. Likewise, director Marc Galver brings the story of the snowboarder and rider to the big screen, with the film "Astrid" which tells the story of one of the best Spanish Paralympic athletes, which has already been released at the Sports Film Festival from Milan.
