As soon as summer arrives, we are all thinking about packing our bags and traveling somewhere along the coast. We dream of reaching the beach, stepping on the sand and submerging ourselves in the blue sea, feeling that total peace and disconnecting. Now comes the bad part. Although we would all like to spend a summer close to the sea, it is not always possible. So, if you are one of those who stays for the month of August in Madrid, today we bring you something that interests you. If the capital stands out for something, it is because of the infinity of plans it offers, even in summer. We recently told you sports plans to do in Madrid, today we want to talk about the San Juan Reservoir, the favorite destination for those who stay in Madrid in August.
When the heat is on, what we most want is to take a good dip to cool us off. The 80s song already said that in Madrid there is no beach, but that does not mean that you cannot bathe. Call a couple of friends, take the car and head to the San Juan Reservoir, 70 km southwest of Madrid. Every weekend it is full of locals looking for a place to cool off or practice water sports.
WHAT TO DO IN THE SAN JUAN SWAMP?
The truth is that in the San Juan Reservoir you can do many more things than you would imagine. Have you ever imagined practicing paddle surfing in Madrid? Well yes, it is possible. Its 14 km of artificial beach make the reservoir the ideal place to practice water sports. You can try paddle surfing, it's a relaxing way to play sports and cool off. Plus, you don't even have to bring equipment. There is a school that will provide you with all the material and will teach you if it is your first time.
However, it is not the only option. You can try wakeboarding, kayaking, sailing... If you like water sports this is your place. But besides water, there are other alternatives to enjoy in this enclave. For example, one option to have a great time is the Parque Aventura Amazonia, the second largest adventure park in Madrid and one of the five largest in Spain. You will be surrounded by trees, zip lines, challenges... a great plan to go with friends. Oh, and the best of all, a super zip line 255 meter long , the longest zip line between trees in Spain.
If you are thinking of going to the swamp but you don't feel like doing sports, there are places with a lot of charm and history that are worth seeing. One of them is the Monasterio Santa María la Real de Valdeiglesias. It is located in Pelayos de la Presa and, although you will be surprised to find it practically in ruins, it was built in the 12th century and was truly magnificent.
A different plan? If you are interested in learning more about the history of Spain, come to the Adolfo Suárez and the Transition Museum. It is located in the town of Cebreros, where he was born, and it is a center that pays homage to the politician, with the aim of showing and disseminating the figure he had at the time of the Transition.
As you can see, if you are one of those who stays here in August, there are a thousand plans you can make. Stop dreaming of the beach and drive to the San Juan Reservoir. Going with friends you will have a great time and you will want to repeat. oh! And don't forget to bring your cap
